9N,2N,8N, Ford Tractors / Newbie also with 9n Lift problems
« on: January 09, 2011, 12:45:02 PM »
HELLLLLLLLO.....anyone home ?....lol... seems to be quiet since last May... but, Hopefully, yall, are getting back on the site and can help out a new  41-9n owner.

9n running fine (well since I did some tinkering with it...), but now running good and the lift was working great, would hold the gannon up for days and not loose a smidgin on the setting...

Was doing some dirt moving yesterday and it was lifting and resetting without a hitch... moved to the back of the property and was trying to smooth out a gravel/dirt road we have and ran the box about 300' or so and the road was hard so the box did jump n bump when it hit a rock or two... and when I got the the end of the run.... no hydraulic lift... the PTO is live and running fine, the fluid is at the proper level... the temps were in the 40's ... but, one minute hydraulics work fine, then NADA...
Ok, Guru's.... chime in here and point me in the right directions.

Yes, I do have a manual...but sage advice, at times, saves hours on the learning curve.

IbTALLWalt... Thanks

9N,2N,8N, Ford Tractors / Re: 9N + or - ground?
« on: January 05, 2011, 10:38:21 AM »
I too have one that is now Negative ground, but want to replace the cut out, and the suppliers page (Fun Time) says the cut out that they sell is for "Postive Ground".

1.  Can I switch grounding on my 40 9n now and install this cut out without damaging anything or the new cut out ?

My issue is that the battery goes dead and I surmise that the cut out is the culprit, as the gen puts out fine and when the battery is charged the system and the 9 runs fine.

I can and have arc'd the existing cut out, and the ammeter shows positive activity.  But, when I shut the 9 off and want to restart in the morning, the battery is dead... any one have some thoughts on these issues?..

Thanks, ibTALLwalt.

General Discussion / Re: serial number
« on: December 30, 2010, 11:19:33 AM »
I too, have just become the proud owner of a Ford 9n/2n, tractor.  My dilemma is that someone prior to my purchase has ground off the serial number on the engine block.  Soooo, I can only guess as to it's real age.  It appears to be a 9n by, applying some of the aforementioned identifiers, but.....as one of you said...you can never be 100% sure.... Would have really liked do be able to establish a birthdate for her...so, I guess I'll just have to give her one like you would an abandoned child...
