I put electronic ignition on mine and love it.
Some times our runs like that if it has old gas in it.

Does anyone use a quick hitch? If so do you have any recommendations... Also what size box blade works best on the N series and is there a brand that is better than the rest?

The NAPA stores in Oklahoma are a good local source for me. I would consider going 12V and alternator now before you start buying parts. Seeing that it has been 6 months since your original post I am curious where you are in your endeavor.

Using sae30 and will continue.

Doing a proper oil change tomorrow and have decided to go with Multi vis 10w-30. Seems noone in the family has changed the oil in the poor 9n in forever. NOT GOOD! Will still use Rotella though.

I have settled on 18 psi rear and 32 psi front. It seems to work really well for mowing and running a disc.

Read on another forum that the detergents in the rotella multi vis is excellent for the tappets.

The viscosity depends on the condition of the engine.

I am not the expert, but if the thing maintains good oil pressure≈lower multi vis numbers/colder climates and SAE 30-40-50 for warm climates

Do some more internet research and decide which way you want to go.

With aircraft we always used phillips X/C until we got a new engine, then went with shell multi vis. It was air cooled, but the technology is 40's era for both.

Have you taken the distributer and coil apart to see if parts fall out and the sort? When you take it apart, replace just about all the parts <$100. Points, rotor bug, condenser, and coil should get the ball rolling. The 6v coil should work fine with the resistors installed. I don't know exactly what was wrong with mine but I replaced it with electronic ignition only to find carb was the bigger issue.

everything has a tendency to rub without sway bars pinned in.
Got my sway bars at Atwoods. They are simple, but I drilled the front pins so they would not fall out. The first two sway bar sets were destroyed by mower blades when the pin fell out. Besides it makes lots of racket!
PTO came off my mower the last time I used it and a guard would have been extremely handy. It made lots of racket too, when it seperated from the PTO output!

The valve seats are hardened and no lead is fine.

Rotella is what I use, can't remember the vis. though.

When it came back from the shop it did run like a new penny for a little while. Still had issues going up an down terrain. You'll never guess how much air in the tires will help?!? Runs 100% better than it did last year.

Food plots went in just fine. It has been mowing, dragging, and discing fine lately. Fresh gas and TLC makes everything better. ;D

I looked at one up close at ATWOODS today and it seems really stout and handy at $170+tax. I wish I used the tractor more and I could justify it.
