That is a pretty good discription(last post)and you should get a manual F-O4-I&T for reference and it is full of info for you.

Welcome to the world of insanity!!!.the Old tractor world.Bought mine 6yrs. ago when We moved to Tn from South Tx.(and Imean south-Brownsville) I paid $2000 nice cond. new paint(red-grey),repainted dark grey.I fixed a lot of small things, carb, dist, general maint. From your description, sounds like yours generally runs good, good to fair oil pres. From my experience with these machines,if it aint broke, dont fix it!.Fix your oil leak, change head gasket, and youll be ok--lha

You need to get a f-O4 manual by I&T.They have a fairly detailed procedure for a lot of adjustments ect. As far as the overheating, you should check for a thrmostat. If there is not one,put one in.It is in the upper rad.hose, just pull it off& see remember to install it w/spring toward engine. Also probably needs idle mix. adjusted by screwing allthe way in, then back out 1/2 turn. Adjust slowly for fastest idle, keeping in mind that in is rich, out for lean then adj. idle speed (nearest engine).-----lha

make sure you are STOPPED when you shift,as the tranny is not synchronized like a newer vehicle, also" double clutching" may help. push slowly, with some force

it has a large bolt holding it on,but if is loose,it has a lot of travel as it has an oil seal around it. you should be able to tighten it

the overrun coupler also converts 1-1/8 in. to1-3/8 in. it has a pin holding it on,which sometimes becomes loose, but mine causes no problems, but needs grease occasionally.Igave $2000 for mine in good shape (41 9n),so Idont know how good a deal you got, but if youre happy then so be it.
