9N,2N,8N, Ford Tractors / Re: 9n PTO and Lift problems

When bush hogging I notice my bush hog doesn't stay at the height I put it at. The hydraulics seem to work OK. What do people do that have to do a lot of bush hogging? also, I shear a lot of pins, is that normal?  I am very new to my 1944 2N Ford Tractor and how to use it properly. I have all books and info on it just practical application is not common sense.

Thank you,

Abraham

9N,2N,8N, Ford Tractors / Oil Dipstick
« on: March 30, 2010, 06:53:33 PM »
Today I changed the oil in my Ford 2N (1944) and it did seem to be a lot more then 6 quarts that came out, but I really didn't think too much of it (I poured the oil on the leaves I was burning, so no way to see how much came out). Anyhow, I put 6 quarts in and when I checked the oil level with my dipstick, it doesn't even show up on the stick.  I was wondering how long the dipstick should be so I can determine if the wrong one is being used. It makes sense because so much came out, the previous owner probably just kept adding oil until he read it on the stick. Although, I will not know this for sure until I know how long the dipstick is supposed to be.  So will you please let me know the length of your dipstick used in a Ford 2N Tractor,

Thank you,

Abraham

9N,2N,8N, Ford Tractors / Shifting 2N
« on: March 30, 2010, 01:49:19 PM »
I just purchased a 1944 Ford 2N and have a question about shifting. The person I bought it from told me to shift it like a truck. I found that when it is in 1st or 2nd gear trying to shift up, by pressing in on the clucth slows down the tractor. I was told that shifting to Third Gear starting off will hurt the clutch, but when I try and drive and shift 1-3 it seems pointless. What am I doing wrong???

This seems like a simple question but I cannot get an answer from anyone. Also what are the cotter pins that hang out of the bottom of my 2n for? What do they secure, the one under the engine drips motor oil.

Can anyone or someone please copy their Operator’s Manual and post it on here as well. I see no reason to pay $30. I belong to a Ford F100 forum and everything is digital and available. I was hoping for the same with my tractor. I just bought it and trying to find answers is very difficult.

What type of shear pin do I place into the PTO shaft when installing my Bush Hog?
