9N,2N,8N, Ford Tractors / 9n alternator

I have just recently purchased a 41 9n the guy i bought it from said there was a problem with the alternator but he never experienced any major issues well i am the tractor will not turn over unless jumped my question is the tractor has a 12 volt conversion can i just replace the alternator on it.
