GM alternators with internal regulators are prone to shorting out. It is in the diode circuit that this happens (diodes are supposed to allow current flow in one direction only). If you are handy with a wrench it is an easy and cheap fix. Take it to your local autoparts counter and ask them to check it.

Serial # to rear of oil filter canister on block. Little light sand paper will usually help bring it out. Try Yesterdaystractors.com for serial # look up.

All aftermarket hoods are for 8N's. Is there a consensus on converting them for 9N use? Options include drilling hole for air intake or coverting to 8N style air cleaner. In either case originality is compromised.
