Title: 8N 12V Conversion
Post by: rtarmstrong on March 16, 2010, 05:59:26 PM
I have a 8N that has been converted to a 12v, the battery keeps draining down on it.  Should the alternate still be hot with the switch off.  If I unhook the alternator the battery stays up overnight, but when I rehook the alternator the battery is dead by morning.  Any suggestions?

GM alternators with internal regulators are prone to shorting out. It is in the diode circuit that this happens (diodes are supposed to allow current flow in one direction only). If you are handy with a wrench it is an easy and cheap fix. Take it to your local autoparts counter and ask them to check it.
