Doing a proper oil change tomorrow and have decided to go with Multi vis 10w-30. Seems noone in the family has changed the oil in the poor 9n in forever. NOT GOOD! Will still use Rotella though.

« Last post by ron v on February 25, 2012, 04:20:12 PM »Hello to everyone. I am new to this forum and have some questions about my 1939 9n. I have serial #1006. Tractor is complete and mostly correct . 32's, smooth hubs, double ribbed finders, starter button in dash, hood with lift out door (missing) grill (missing). There are allot of good things about this tractor but the bad thing is the block is cracked along the bottom of the water jacket. Tractor was running when I bought it but I have since dismanteled the motor.
My question is, Is there anything that will repair this? I hope to put this back together for prades and show. Nothing more.
I am also looking for some parts like Door in hood, Grill, new dash, and correct steering wheel.
Any help you guys could provide would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

I think you have a bind or break in your transmission. Jack one wheel off the ground. Put tractor in first gear and press starter button. The starter should drive the wheel that is off the ground. If it does not you will need to go into the transmission. I have never seen the transmission have problems in a 9n.

9N,2N,8N, Ford Tractors / Will only run with clutch depressed
« Last post by Guardian3 on January 28, 2012, 05:00:44 PM »Worked for weeks on my 9N to get it running and finally got it to work. While letting it idle and get the engine warmed up so I could flush the cooling system, I hear a "thunk" in the tranny area and the engine immediately dies. I got back on board and depressed the clutch while cranking and got it back running, but as soon as I let off the clutch, the engine dies. I restarted it multiple times with the same result. I moved the gear shifter around and tried to see if the tractor would move when I let out the clutch, but no matter what gear I'm in, the tractor doesn't budge and inch - it just dies unless the clutch is engaged. Any ideas what to start tearing apart?
