PTO shaft seal leaks
« on: June 22, 2011, 04:55:20 PM »
Does anyone know about how to change the seal for the PTO shaft?
Do you need to use a puller of some kind?
Or can you just pry it out?
thanks in advance...

Hi,
I just joined the forum and noticed you message.
I hope I am not too late to be of help.
To change the PTO seal just unbolt the flange around the PTO shaft and it pulls right out.
The seal can be easily changed once the shaft Assy is out and on the bench.
It is really easy to do.
I am restoring a 9N and just did it on my tractor.
Good Luck!

I'm upgrading to a larger PTO shaft myself and recently removed mine just by unbolting the 4 screws holding the seal plate.  Make sure to drain all of the oil before you attempt this, otherwise you'll have a big mess on your hands.  I had to yank mine a little to get it started, but it slid right out after that.  Good luck.
